VisitScotland is promoting a drive to increase the number of food and drink businesses with the ‘Taste Our Best’ accreditation in Inverclyde. With over 1,000 businesses now participating across Scotland, Inverclyde has a small number including The Chartroom, McCaskie’s, New Dawn Coffee Shop, Three Sisters Bake and Inverkip Hotel.
‘Taste Our Best’ is the food quality award promoted by VisitScotland, which can be achieved as a standalone restaurant, café or takeaway establishment as well as serviced accommodation . This award is also available for accommodation providers as a free addition to full quality assurance scheme participation.
Application for this award is by annual participation, which would involve one of the VisitScotland assessors conducting an incognito visit to observe if required quality and provenance standards are in place. A full report and useful feedback is also provided during the visit to utilise as a business tool.
The criteria to achieve ‘Taste Our Best’ involves:
- At least 40% of a menu containing Scottish produce
- The food is of appropriate quality
- The provenance of the food is adequately promoted to customers
