Belville Community Garden Nominated For Scottish Resources Award
Belville Community Garden has been selected as a finalist for the Scottish Resources Awards.
The Hub has been recognised in the category of ‘Best Food Waste Initiative Award’ for its ‘Friday cafe initiative’ in tackling food waste.
The initiative offers free homemade soup and a filled roll on Friday lunchtimes to anyone in the Belville Street area, which also comes with a warm welcome and good banter.
Belville offers a range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian soup and filled roll options with tea and coffee also provided.
The project is open to all but focuses predominantly on the elderly, those with a carer or anyone who feels in any way socially isolated.
The project also provides transport if notified in advance and uses unwanted vegetables and fruit from shops and individual donations to make its homemade soup and jam.
The Awards take place at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on 4 October 2018.
