Inverclyde’s A Spoonful of Sugar is celebrating awards success at the Scottish Renfrewshire Business Awards on a fantastic night for Inverclyde food and drink businesses with The Exchange and One Cove Road also picking up awards.
Owner Nicola Temporal’s tablet was the winner of the ‘Best New Food‘ category at the final which was held on Sunday 2 December 2018 at the Glynhill Hotel in Renfrew.
On news of her success, Nicola said:
“Sadly I didn’t attend the awards as my little boy was unwell. I got a call from the Scottish Business Awards to congratulate me on winning, and I was in shock!
“I was jumping around and crying as it was very overwhelming. I never thought I would be nominated, never mind win, as my category had lots of excellent businesses competing.”
The award, based on customer experience and feedback, saw mystery shoppers attend various events and stockists with Nicola also presenting her tablet to the judges.
Her recipe has been passed down through three generations of the family with it initially coming from Nicola’s late Grandmother. Nicola’s great-grandparents also owned McKay’s bakery, and she is continuing the family passion for baking.
Baking tablet started as a hobby for Nicola which grew to create bespoke favours for weddings with A Spoonful of Sugar now supplying a wide range of local cafes and restaurants. The tablet is homemade in Greenock, uses 100% Scottish ingredients and is hand-packed to order.
“I would like to thank every single person that voted for me. I would also like to thank my customers and my stockists as without them I wouldn’t have been nominated. The support and messages I have received have been overwhelming.
“Without a doubt, I have to say a special thanks to my family for always believing in me and supporting me over the years. I want to dedicate my award to my late Gran who we miss every day – I hope she would be proud.”
Nicola is aiming to grow the business and is interested in speaking to further local companies that would be interested in stocking the tablet. For more details, please contact Nicola via her Facebook page.
